The Kings Summer staff recruitment process
In January and February we conduct talks with returning staff members, as we highly value experienced talent returning to our centres.
Recruitment of new staff begins from the end of February when we welcome new applications.
To apply to one of our non-residential Vacation Extra centres please email an up-to-date CV and cover letter to the relevant address below.
To apply for one of our rewarding and fun roles in our residential centres at Bath, Cheltenham, Farringtons or South Bank in the UK, and New York or Malibu in the USA, please follow the below steps.
How to apply
Read the job descriptions and decide if there is a position you would like to apply for.
Choose a location: Check out our locations and find out more about each centre’s location, facilities and sample programmes to give you an idea of the different activities and excursions YOU could be leading this summer!
Go to the 'Apply now!' section and complete an online application form. Please make sure to complete the correct application form for the UK or USA. We will acknowledge receipt of your application form and will contact you within 14 days if you have been selected for an interview. If you do not hear from us within this time period, please assume that your application was unsuccessful at this time.
You must provide two recent professional referees as part of the application process. Referees will be contacted once an offer of a role has been accepted.
Applicants for management roles will undergo a two step interview process which consists of a telephone or Skype interview which, if successful, will be followed by a face-to-face interview (location permitting) or a Skype interview. In addition, all management applicants will be subject to an interview task which has to be completed prior to interview.
Activity Leader interviews will be held via Skype and successful applicants will be invited to a group interview day in London or Brighton, for roles in the UK, or New York or Los Angeles in the USA.
Teacher, House Parent and Night Supervisor interviews are normally conducted via Skype.
We strongly encourage all applicants to research our programmes and centres in preparation for interview as this knowledge is an integral part and forms part of the basis for all interviews. Please note that any gaps in your career history will also be queried as part of our safer recruitment process.
If you have been successful:
You will receive an offer of employment, together with our staff handbook — please ensure you read this information thoroughly before accepting the offer. If you accept the offer of employment, joining documents/ new hire paperwork will be emailed to you. Please read these documents carefully, complete all the forms, and email everything back to us, along with any additional documents which are required.
Required documents that you will need to return to us are:
- Copies of your teaching qualification(s) and degree (if applicable)
- Proof of your eligibilty to work in the UK or USA, such as a copy of the photo page of your passport (visa or work permit if applicable)
- ID documents for your background check
In the UK, all academic staff will be asked to bring originals of teaching qualifications to centre for verification.
All staff will be required to complete a background check. We will send you the appropriate application forms and information sheet on how to complete the form with the offer of employment.
For UK applicants only — If you have been living overseas for the last six months, you will also need to obtain a Certificate of Good Conduct (COGC) or an equivalent document. We will give you further information on this at job offer stage.
Starting in April, summer staff will be able to access our pre-summer training materials in a members-only area on our website. You will be expected to review and study these documents before you start at centre where further training will take place.
You will receive specific details about starting your role from the central team and/or the management team at your centre a few days before you are due to start, to give you specific details of where to go. Training sessions will be held for all staff prior to the summer or when you commence your role at centre, depending on the role and hire/start date.
